We’re always really pleased to be able to offer work experience placements to local young people, to give them an opportunity to find out more about the world of work, and an introduction to printing.
This week, Alex joined us from Penrice Academy. He really enjoys graphic design and interactive media, so we gave him the opportunity to spend some time in all the departments, learning more about what we do.
We asked Alex to write about his experience here at St. Austell Printing Company:
On my first day I was very nervous to go in to the building. As I walked into this huge formal building I was greeted by the extremely friendly staff – I instantly felt a lot better to work here for the week.
After I was introduced to everyone I was taken on a tour of the building and I was really excited to get my week under way.
I got to design my very own business card and I went through the process of the whole company, from designing to finishing which was an interesting experience. I have to say I think anyone that comes to this workplace will have a great time here. I really enjoy graphic design and interactive media.
For anyone that comes here on work experience in the future will have a fantastic time because of the friendly environment and the fact that you will get to try out everything in the building, like reprographics and printing.
I think reprographics was one of the best bits of my work experience because the staff were very supporting and funny to work with for the duration that I was up there with them. I loved that I got to make my own printing plates for the litho printers which printed in the colour pallet CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black).
I also learnt to change pictures to the colour setting CMYK as well as use some of the software that they use here like InDesign and Illustrator.
This is a great place to work and I will definitely consider it as one of the places I would like to work at for a living.
